I’ve seen the highest maintenance and weight loss numbers on Ny Net Diary. I adore the app, but why is this happening?
The official Estimated Energy Requirements calculations from the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies are utilized by MyNetDiary.
The EER for an adult man is 662 - 9.53 x age (y) + PA x (15.91 x wt [kg] + 539.6 x ht [m]).
Age (y) - 6.91 x EER + PA x (9.36 x wt [kg] + 726 x ht [m]) for an adult woman
The DRI book’s “Energy” chapter provides an explanation of the formulae.
The PA scale is 1.0 for being inactive, 1.12 for being low active, 1.27 for being active, and 1.45 for being extremely active. View more information about the activity levels on MyNetDiary. It is advised that you set your activity level in MyNetDiary to “sedentary” and correctly record any additional energy-consuming activities.
Compared to the general “active” activity level, which is obviously a very approximate estimate, this will be far more precise. Your activity level may be changed under the Me tab’s Personal Info section.
We name the resultant figure in MyNetDiary “Estimated Energy Requirements,” or Weight Maintenance Calories. Your body need this many calories to stay at its present weight.
If you choose not to utilize this method, you may modify the way the website or the iOS app calculates your maintenance calories under the Weight Plan menu (it is not yet available to do so on the Android app, but it will be soon). The app may be overestimating your calorie needs. This is a common problem with many calorie tracking apps, as they often rely on averages and don’t take into account individual differences.
