Diet soda has helped me lose 31 pounds over the last two months, and I have to say, they’re a godsend. They’ve really helped me stop drinking sugary drinks like juice and other sodas, which used to be easy for me to drink 300-500 calories of.
I’m going to presume you regularly consume soda. If you drink a lot of sugary drinks, a diet will help you lose weight. If you already drink plain water throughout the day, I would not recommend switching to diet Coke.
I consume a lot of soda. I appreciate the carbonation, and it’s one of the most simple methods to stay hydrated with minimal effort. If I drank this much sugar-sweetened Coke, I would consume a crazy amount of empty calories. So, for me, it’s good for stopping me from gaining weight and having my sugar consumption go crazy.
Diet drinks are great for weight loss. You could consume 400 diet drinks every day and not acquire one pound of fat. (Do not really do this ). The sugar substitutes in diet sodas have been extensively researched. Many specialists think that aspartame and sucrolose can literally cure societal diabetes and obesity. There has NEVER been a reliable study revealing harmful health effects in suggested doses, and those who claim this are always “dieticians” and “fitness gurus”. The truth is that 99% of nutritional science is incorrect. We know very little. However, we are fully aware of aspartame and Splenda.
Does Diet Coke contain zero calories?
If so, yes.
(1) Because you are still drinking soda yet it contains no calories, this means you are not eating any calories.
People with soda “addiction” can begin by switching to zero-calorie sodas. This will help to reduce calorie intake. Calories are most important.
You can still consume soda if you maintain a calorie deficit.
Soda in general is not particularly healthy, thus drinking largely soda or other unnutritious foods would be counterproductive. However, soda can have a place in your “diet”. Simply be diligent.
(2) Diet soda with calories is essentially the same as regular soda. Ingredients may vary significantly, but calories are calories. Again, soda is not very nutritious, so it doesn’t matter what the ingredients are, it’s not wise to drink mostly soda for energy (calories).
I rarely drink soda. Maybe when I’m low on food and I need some sugar.
I rarely drink soda. Maybe when I’m low on food and I need some sugar.
They have no calories. Because decreasing weight means ingesting fewer calories, switching from a 250-calorie Coke to a Diet Coke is a no-brainer for weight loss.
Of course, it has to replace the full-sugar Coke. Drinking Diet Coke in addition to regular Coke will not help. Switching from drinking water to Diet Coke will not help you lose weight. Ordering large fries instead of medium fries as a treat for converting to Diet Coke will not help you lose weight.
This is not a weight-loss supplement. It’s a zero-calorie substitute for a 200-300 calorie can of sugar. If you quit drinking 200-300 calorie cans of sugar water and replace them with zero-calorie cans.
Diet soda has helped millions of individuals lose weight. Over many decades. Millions upon millions of people. I’m one of the millions.
It has also helped millions of people maintain their current weight rather than lose it.
It has also assisted millions of people in not only staying the same, but gaining less weight than they would have gained if they had consumed an equal amount of normal soda instead. I am also one of the millions. Everything depends on what period of my life you’re looking at.
It has never, ever caused anybody to acquire more weight than they would have if they had consumed an equal amount of ordinary soda.
No one that I know of. I know a guy who quit drinking soda and started drinking only pure water. He stated he did nothing else and the pounds simply dropped off of him.
Otherwise? My sister used to drink Tab frequently in the 1970s before switching to Diet Coke in the 1980s. She must have consumed a 2-liter bottle each day. She never lost weight, but I don’t recall her exercising or changing her diet. She simply assumed that consuming diet sodas would result in positive outcomes. She stopped eating that about 15 years ago and started drinking smoothies. It has still not made a difference.
However, this is only one example of someone not receiving assistance. You’re asking about one person who was. There’s millions of overweight people - I’m sure that somebody somewhere was helped, I just don’t know who they are.
A day is roughly similar to consuming three candy bars. Replacing those Cokes with zero-calorie cola makes a significant difference.
Is it the correct thing to do? It’s your decision. People frequently argue the use of sweeteners and the consumption of fizzy beverages. There is no doubt that drinking plain water is probably healthier for you. But everyone is free to make their own decisions about those pesky sweets. Personally, I utilise them because I have limitations to what I am ready to give up.
I’m old now. My usage of artificial sweeteners dates back to those small saccharine pills. I am in terrific health and doing well. If I had eaten all the sweets instead of those false sweeteners, I would most likely be very fat and probably dead by now. And diabetic for sure!
Diet soda may not directly help you lose weight. Consider your other options. If you choose a sugary version of your favourite Coke over the ZERO version, you are adding calories to your diet.
Technically, we could argue that Coca-Cola, or any beverage, is detrimental for your health. However, we all have moments of weakness, such as when we’re at the movies, in a mall, or at a party with friends.
So, when you need a bottle of cola, choose the zero-calorie variety.
Weight reduction is the outcome of a calorie shortage. Diet beverages have no calories, thus they can help you lose weight because they are practically the same as drinking flavoured water. It will not add calories.
However, you must create a deficit somewhere. Either by eating less or exercising more.
So suddenly, starting to drink diet drinks is a neutral behaviour that will not do anything on its own. However, if you’re used to drinking ordinary sugar-flavored sodas and then convert to diet versions, it will assist you lose weight, limit, or even stop weight gain.
I used to drink diet coke all the time. I was heavy. I can’t say Diet Coke made me obese, but I suspect it did. I believe that all carbonated liquids, including sparkling water with no calories, enlarge your stomach due to the carbonation. That is why, if you have a stomach ache and drink a carbonated beverage, you will feel better. The expanded stomach allows you to eat more before feeling full. If you’ve already eaten too much, the carbonated drink will offer your stomach some breathing room.
While diet coke is low in calories, using it purely for weight loss is not recommended. Drinking it in moderation as part of a well-balanced diet may not impede weight loss efforts, but focussing on overall dietary patterns and lifestyle habits is essential. Choose water or other hydrating beverages as your primary beverage, and have diet coke on occasion. Visit my Quora profile for personalised dietary recommendations.
Not before or after my bariatric surgery. In fact, the guidelines for us bariatric surgery patients recommended avoiding all carbonated or fizzy liquids, even sparkling mineral water, because carbonation expands your stomach and might increase appetite. So I haven’t had sparkling or carbonated beverages in three years, and I don’t miss them at all. Worked for me!
In fact, these research discovered that replacing sugar-sweetened beverages with diet soda can lead to weight loss (18, 19). In one study, overweight people drank 24 ounces (710 mL) of diet Coke or water every day for a year. Over the last few years, numerous studies have found ties between diet soda and weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, and other health problems. Most recently, headlines warned about a greater risk of dementia and stroke among diet soda drinkers.
