I’d love to be one of those folks that gets up at 6 a.m. and works out before the day begins. But it’s so difficult!
My alarm will go off at 6am, and I just find it so hard, and even on days when I do feel awake, I just think ‘last thing I want to do is work out first thing’.
How do you manage it? Do you simply push yourself till it becomes a habit?
Nothing will make you go to bed earlier than pushing yourself to get up early and perform your workout. After doing this for a few days, you’ll be so exhausted that you’ll automatically fall asleep earlier.
Don’t force it, or you’ll detest going and decide not to go at all. If you want to go later in the day, then go later. I mix and match. If I get up and want to go for an early workout, I will; otherwise, I will go later in the day and appreciate the experience more. The key is to go to the gym for a workout rather than the time you go, in my opinion. Continue to work hard.
I’ve been getting up at 4:30 every weekday for nearly 15 years, and it doesn’t get any easier. When I was trying to work out in the morning, I would wake up at 3:45. I couldn’t keep that timetable.
Years ago, when I did this, I felt better and more productive throughout the day. I’d be in bed by 10 p.m. and asleep by 11, so waking up at 6 a.m. still gave me my 7 hours of sleep.
Go to bed around 6 p.m. That will provide your body with the 8 hours it need, as well as additional time before 6 a.m. if necessary. When you look at people like The Rock or Mark Wahlberg, they always go to bed early so they can get up early.
I tell myself ‘I am someone that gets up at 6’ or ‘I want to be a person that gets up at 6’ It works four out of five times and reduces dozing significantly. But gosh, it’s hard.
Get up at 5 a.m. and put up the coffee maker the night before. Drink coffee, get up, drop a deuce, then hit the 6 button to begin training. Set your alarm clock across the room and get your clothing and shoes ready to go. Get dressed before you notice what’s going on.
