Hi folks…
I’m a 14-year-old girl, 5’3.5" and currently weigh 138 lbs. I’m seeking advice on how much weight I should aim to lose and how I can do it, given my medical conditions.
I have some health issues that make exercising difficult, and my weight fluctuates a lot due to medication changes. My weight typically stabilizes around 135 lbs when not on medication. Recently, I’ve lost my appetite and I’m confused about why I’m gaining weight even though I’m eating less than before. I’m concerned about possible cancer (a brain tumor) because of my symptoms, but I’m not losing weight like I would expect if I had cancer. I’m scheduled for an MRI soon.
I want to be taken seriously by doctors and think losing a bit of weight might help. However, I’m already eating 1-2 meals a day and sometimes don’t finish my meals due to loss of appetite or nausea. I’m also working on drinking more water, but I’m still not drinking a lot.
I can walk, but not run, and I can’t participate in sports. Yoga might be an option, but I’m worried it might worsen my joint pain. I can’t do long walks either; I have to take breaks every 10-20 minutes and some days I struggle to even get out of bed.
Given my situation, what amount of weight loss would be reasonable, and what strategies or exercises might work best for me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
