Hello, everyone. I talked to my weight with my doctor, and he recommended Naltrexone. I want to shed roughly 90-100 pounds (I am 5’1 and weigh 233 pounds). I have previously used the Phentermine (Topamax) combination, and while I lost a lot of weight and kept it off when I stopped taking Phentermine, I regained all the weight I lost plus about 50 pounds. I am wondering if anyone has experience with Naltrexone and whether it is similar in that if I stop taking it, I would regain the weight. Thank you in advance.
Naltrexone works differently than Phentermine. Phentermine curbs your appetite, while Naltrexone helps reduce cravings and that “reward” feeling you get from food. This can make it easier to stick with healthy habits. The good news is that Naltrexone shouldn’t cause weight regain once you stop taking it, as long as you maintain those healthy choices. Talk to your doctor more about your goals and if Naltrexone is right for you,
I wish you would have gotten on Naltrexone immediately after you called quits on Phentermine.
Naltrexone could have reduced any binge-eating symptoms as it works as a craving inhibitor.
In terms of helping in weight loss, it is extremely effective. Cheers on your journey
I struggled with weight loss for years and tried various medications, including the Phentermine (Topamax) combo. While it worked initially, I ended up regaining more weight after stopping. Recently, I discussed Naltrexone with my doctor for my goal of losing 90-100 pounds. From my experience, Naltrexone can be effective, but maintaining weight loss usually requires a comprehensive approach beyond medication. This means focusing on sustainable lifestyle changes like diet and exercise. It’s crucial to understand that, like with Phentermine, stopping Naltrexone might lead to weight regain if healthy habits aren’t established. It’s best to consult with your doctor about long-term strategies to support your weight loss goals.
You’re right in highlighting the different mechanisms of Phentermine and Naltrexone. Phentermine primarily acts as an appetite suppressant, while Naltrexone works by modulating the brain’s reward system to reduce cravings and the pleasure associated with eating.
It’s great to know that Naltrexone may help maintain progress after you stop taking it, provided you continue with healthy habits. Always consult with a healthcare provider to discuss your specific situation and determine the best approach for your needs and goals.
