No eating out or taking takeaway unless it's a special occasion to avoid offending anyone

Hey everyone! I’ve started my journey to get back to my old body, and it’s going well! :muscle: But eating out often with friends has led to a 10kg weight gain in a year. I’ve decided to go back to my vegan lifestyle and mostly eat at home. However, my family-in-law gets sensitive when I choose healthier drinks. It’s sometimes awkward, but I’m determined to find a balance between socializing and my health goals.

Congrats on the bold step and good luck in your journey to a healthier you. Do not mind your family-in-law’s reaction. Instead, focus on the greater picture and what really matters(your well-being)

Your health and well-being come first. Focus on that and ignore your in-laws sensitivity. That is selfish of them to be offended by something that’s not affecting them one bit.

I’ve been through a similar struggle with balancing health goals and social dynamics. When I switched to a healthier diet, including vegan choices, it sometimes led to awkward situations with family and friends who weren’t used to my new lifestyle. I found it helpful to gently explain my choices and focus on enjoying the company rather than the food. Bringing your own snacks or drinks to gatherings can also be a way to stay on track without causing discomfort. It’s all about finding a respectful middle ground that supports your health while maintaining positive relationships.

Hi brinfedri,

That’s a great approach to balancing health goals with social situations! Here’s a quick summary:

  • Gentle Explanation: Explain your choices kindly to family and friends, focusing on why it works for you.
  • Enjoy the Company: Prioritize enjoying the social aspect rather than focusing solely on the food.
  • Bring Your Own: Bringing your own snacks or drinks can help you stay on track without causing discomfort or feeling left out.

Finding that respectful balance is key to maintaining both your health goals and positive relationships. Thanks for sharing your insights!
