Realistic time frame to lose 20 lbs?

How long does it take to lose 20 pounds?

I’m not in a rush but I’d like to know so I can prepare myself mentally.

20 weeks if you 100% follow through with everything you do, which is VERY HARD if you don’t already have good habits and know your weaknesses, etc. It’s more likely that it will take 30 to 40 weeks, since you might have a few bad weeks and a break from the diet.

Also, you’re already at a good weight, so it will be hard and take a long time to lose weight.

Losing 20 pounds realistically depends on various factors, including your current weight, diet, exercise routine, and metabolism.

A safe and sustainable rate of weight loss is about 1-2 pounds per week. Given this, you can expect to lose 20 pounds in about 10 to 20 weeks.

It’s important to focus on a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and making long-term lifestyle changes rather than quick fixes.

Always consider consulting with a healthcare professional or a dietitian to create a personalized plan that’s healthy and effective.

Many healthy weight-loss guidelines say you should aim to lose one or two pounds per week (whether you have five or 50 pounds to lose), which means it could take anywhere from 10 to 20 weeks to lose 20 pounds.

Realistically its about 4 months or more

I appreciate your suggestion, Lisa. It’s true that achieving safe, long-term weight loss requires a combination of elements, including metabolism, activity, and food. Your advice to concentrate on long-term lifestyle changes and aim for 1-2 pounds every week is excellent. Seeking individualised advice from a nutritionist or healthcare expert is always a prudent decision.

Hey DanBurn, you should be able to shed two pounds per week as the maximum healthy quantity.
