Stationary bike vs treadmill

I am interested in hearing about people’s experiences with treadmills versus stationary bikes like Peloton, particularly in terms of weight loss programs.

Both my husband and I are at our highest weight, and we’re ready to make a change rather than just complaining.

Due to our work schedules and kids, going to the gym is difficult for us. So, we’re considering either a Peloton-style bike or a treadmill for home.

I have heard about successful weight loss stories with treadmill programs focusing on high incline and medium speed. However, my husband thinks a Peloton would be more interactive and enjoyable, increasing the likelihood of us using it. Additionally, it would fit better in our living area compared to a treadmill, which would need its own space.

If anyone has experience with either option or both, I’d love to hear about it.

Thank you!

I have a Peloton and I absolutely love it. The variety of available content is fantastic, and I especially appreciate how approachable and accessible it is. Peloton has truly made moving my body every day a joyful experience, and I value that they don’t focus on diet culture.

I’ve been cycling with Peloton for 3 years, completed multiple power zone challenges, and logged 500 rides along with 300 strength classes. Despite all this, I never lost any weight until I started running. Now, I run an average of 10-12 miles per week and lift weights 2-3 days a week without changing my diet. In the last 4 months, I’ve lost 12 pounds. For some reason, running just clicked for my body, and the weight started coming off. I still ride my Peloton bike, but I mostly do Peloton runs on audio or the app on my non-Peloton treadmill.
