Testimonial: If you believe weight loss is not just based on food

I began losing weight in December 2023 by watching calories and working out hard at the gym. I shed roughly 45 pounds in 9 months (slowly and steadily). Then, at the end of September, I shattered my back, bringing my gym presence to an abrupt halt. Except for what is essential to keep my house running and my children happy and healthy, I have become almost completely inactive. But I opted not to get too caught up in my thoughts and mourn my weight loss progress (which was difficult to do mentally), and instead I said "you know what, I’m going to simply keep doing what I know, and build on my eating habits I’ve been creating for the last 9, 10,11 months”. And guess what? I haven’t restricted much more than I was before and I’m still losing weight. I’ve lost another 5 pounds in the last month. And 4 pounds before that. So there’s no doubt that working out makes you stronger and healthier… but CICO is all you need for weightloss.

Truth. I didn’t exercise much for the first 9 months or so and dropped a lot of weight in that time. Our minds tell us to go all in at once, but this frequently backfires. Slow and steady modifications yield long-term results.

Oh, I know, which I find unfortunate because I enjoy the gym and also love to overeat. :sob:

How dare you. I can continue eating anything I want whenever I want. I don’t need to change my eating habits!!! NOOOOOOO!!!

I haven’t worked out at all; all I do is consume 1400 calories every day. I drop 2 pounds per week. Dropped 58 pounds since January.

Muscle mass burns calories. You spent a lot of time in the gym before, so I’m thinking you gained muscle. That can assist you not only shed more fat, but also maintain your weight stable regardless of what you eat. However, reducing muscle can also result in weight loss, albeit not the optimum sort. Losing weight through calorie deficit is easier in the short term, but working exercise is what keeps your numbers stable and prevents weight gain. Wishing you continued success :v:.

I am fortunate to have an excellent metabolism. I can eat whatever I want, but I still gain weight.

I’ve altered my diet multiple times throughout my life and visited several dietitians over the years. The only time I lost considerable weight was when I exercised regularly.

Weight loss is not one-size-fits-all. If you can’t lose weight primarily by modifying your food, don’t feel like you’ve failed.

I hope this is true, but your body changes as you age. As you get older, your metabolism slows. I have a difficult time losing or gaining weight; change comes slowly.

I’m also noticing the hidden calories in pre-processed and obviously restaurant food, and I’m reducing my intake of both.

It is amazing to hear this! I have knee surgery next week, am 8 weeks postpartum, and am disappointed that I can’t exercise! Going to restrict calories and hope for the best.
