What exactly does it mean to leave out "processed foods"?

Isn’t everything processed? Or are they merely referring to pre-packaged food? Does this imply that I can’t use tinned beans and shit?

I believe they mean UPFs (ultra-processed foods). You may download an app that allows you to scan barcodes or ingredient lists to determine whether something at the grocery is UPF. The application is called “Processed”.

These meals appear to cause a variety of issues, ranging from weight gain (since they are purposefully created to be extremely tasty and addicting) to IBS (because the chemicals in them frequently do not interact well with the body or the gut microbiota).

I’d suggest pre-packaged foods. Food shouldn’t have a six-month shelf life. If the product must be eaten or frozen within 3-4 days of purchase, I would consider it minimally processed.

Utilise fresh fruits and meat. Avoid foods that are clearly unhealthy, such as chips, sweets, soda, and microwaved meals. Canned food is usually acceptable, depending on what it is. However, it is preferable to simply purchase a large bag of beans and prepare them yourself. All of your answers are contained inside the nutrition label and ingredients list.

You do not have to cut it out. Eat your beans and tuna. Try to incorporate as many fruits and vegetables as possible, but you must live within your finances and lifestyle.

They most likely mean to limit the number of overly processed foods (mainly packaged candy, cookies, granola bars, cereal, chips, etc.) and increase the amount of “whole foods” consumed.

The components list usually indicates whether or not something is highly processed.
Any packaged products containing a large number of filler components that you cannot pronounce are considered “red flag” foods. However, this does not mean you can never have them; rather, consider removing them from your “staple” foods in favour of healthier alternatives.

I would believe it refers to items that contain an excessive amount of preservatives or have an excessively long shelf life. Twinkies and chips, for example.

For me, it implies any dish that I didn’t create from scratch.
