I embraced a vegan diet. At initially, certain harmful things were included (fake meat, potato chips, etc.), but the benefits of eliminating dairy and meat from my diet were immensely fulfilling. I never appeared to be overweight, but I was getting there. Within two months, I’d lost 15 pounds, and they just seemed to come off. Although I never experienced the joint pain or shortness of breath that come with being extremely overweight, everything physical appeared very easy, and my body felt light and comfortable—as if gravity had less effect.
I can’t say that veganism increased my intelligence, but it did give me a sense of fulfilment. I appreciate animals and enjoy the outdoors, and, as an animal consumer.
I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 1985. I was fortunate that I was asymptomatic at the time and underwent the testing for another purpose. Because I had not yet had symptoms, I was able to avoid going to the emergency department and taking potentially harmful medications. I’ve been managing my disease for 34 years, primarily with diet and exercise.
