Are potatoes really healthy?

My mother and I frequently dispute about this. She says I can’t eat potatoes with every meal since they aren’t healthy and the starch only encourages weight gain.

I recently saw an article that stated the opposite: they are one of the best foods for weight loss since they improve satiety and can be used in a variety of ways to replace uninteresting foods.

So what’s the truth? (References would be requested, if possible.)

I’m just going to hijack a comment to bring up resistant starch. When you cook, cool overnight, and reheat potatoes, the body treats them as if they were significantly higher in fibre, which means you don’t absorb all of the energy.

Great if you want to lose weight!

I went from rice to potatoes, and it’s a fairly simple method to reduce calories without eating less. I can eat one kilogramme of potatoes every day and be satisfied. With rice, I ate 2 cups dried, which equalled roughly 1200 calories.

Boiling potatoes are literally the most satiating item in terms of calories. You could do worse than having boiling potatoes with everything.

Potatoes are life, and I’ve been losing weight by eating them every day. I just make sure to count my calories! The older generation has tried to tell me that starch is harmful, but it isn’t lol. Most people know very little about actual nutrition. Tell her to let you be yourself and eat within your daily limits.

Potatoes are as healthful as the ingredients in which they are cooked. They are high in vitamins, minerals, and potassium and are quite healthful, with a reasonable caloric content.

I’m a big fan of potatoes and rice. I eat numerous potatoes and grains each day while dropping 130 pounds. In the first three months of eating only potatoes, I stopped taking insulin, was no longer diabetic, and was off all medications for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and other conditions. I have never felt better.

They are slightly more starchy than other vegetables, although in their purest form, they are not particularly “unhealthy”. The less processed, the better. They become calorie bombs when fried, coated with cheese and sour cream, or mashed with a lot of butter.

Potatoes are an excellent weight reduction food as long as they are not covered in fatty toppings. They have a large volume but a low calorie density. You can get full on fewer calories. They also contain almost all of the micronutrients required for survival, making them exceptionally nutrient dense.
