The title tells it everything. Does anyone else feel guilty about losing weight because you aren’t as humorous or have lost part of your charm? Some guys I used to hang out with would repeatedly say this every time we got together, encouraging me to gain weight again. It creeps into my head and makes me feel like I’m going backward every time I lose weight. In general, how have some of you learned to deal with people preferring a larger version of you? Has anyone else’s mental health deteriorated at the same rate as their weight loss?
The title tells it everything. Is anyone else feeling terrible about losing weight since they aren’t as funny or have lost some of their appeal? Some guys I used to hang out with would say this every time we got together, urging me to put on weight again. Every time I lose weight, I feel like I’m regressing. In general, how have you learnt to deal with folks who prefer a larger version of you? Has anyone else’s mental health suffered as rapidly as their weight loss?
When I started at my current job, I hadn’t had any therapy yet, so I had anxiety and no stress management, and I was constantly high-strung without noticing. It made me appear ‘vivid’ and ‘zany’. When I had a breakdown at work, I eventually went to therapy and began to feel peaceful and cheerful. People immediately began asking if I was okay because I appeared depressed. Only those who knew me there thought it was a ‘positive’ shift.
Growing pains… when you start doing things that don’t appeal to people, they lose interest in you. Those that value all of your hobbies and qualities will survive the test of time.
You’re probably less of a people pleaser now, which is a positive development. After I lost weight, I discovered that I felt less obligated to entertain others. I’m not a damn stand-up comedian. they still tell me I’m amusing, but I only utter jokes when I’m in the mood, and they no longer expect everything I say to be a joke. If your pals are urging you to gain weight or claiming that you are no longer the friend they know, it’s time to find new acquaintances.
