Can I lose weight if I eat 1600 calories?

I’m 4’9” and weigh 80kg. My maintenance calories are around 1700. If I eat 1600, will I lose weight? I’ve lost weight very quickly in the past, but it left my face looking saggy and caused some loose skin. This time, I want to lose weight slowly to avoid those issues. What’s the best number of calories for me to aim for? I’d really appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Honestly, just try it for a month. If it feels too slow, you can lower it a little more later.

That’s a really good idea. Thank you so much.

No problem. Everyone’s body reacts differently, so experimenting is the way to go. Good luck. :heart:

If you eat fewer calories than you burn, then yes, you’ll lose weight. That’s just how it works.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure if a 100-calorie deficit would actually work.

It’ll be really slow with just 100 calories. You won’t have much room for flexibility either, but technically, yes, it can work.

@Tully
I see what you mean. I just don’t want to lose too fast and end up with saggy skin again. I already feel like my looks aren’t great, so I don’t want to make it worse.

You’ll need to track everything very accurately. Keep in mind that calorie calculations can vary by about 200 calories, so there’s no guarantee you’ll lose at 1600.

Maybe I should try 1500 instead? Do you think that might work better?

If your maintenance is 1700, you’d need to eat closer to 1400 to see slow weight loss. 1600 might not be enough of a deficit.

That makes sense, but I’m worried because when I ate 1300 before, I lost weight really fast (30 lbs in 2 months), and I ended up with loose skin. Maybe 1500 would be a better middle ground? What do you think?
