Hello friends I know there are studies on this, but I am looking for personal experiences from people who are overweight. For most people, alcohol seems to cause weight gain. However, for both me and my brother, drinking somewhat regularly (2-3 times a week) seems to lead to weight loss. It might reduce our appetites and snacking. We are not heavy drinkers; it is usually just a bit more than a couple of glasses of wine a night.
While studies have not consistently shown a cause-and-effect relationship, it is widely accepted that drinking more than moderate amounts of alcohol can lead to weight gain. However, individual experiences can differ. Some people report that moderate alcohol use does not cause weight gain and, in some situations, may even result in weight loss. Individual metabolism, lifestyle, and total diet are all important considerations. If you and your brother discover that moderate alcohol consumption helps lower your appetites and snacking, it’s critical to consider how it affects your overall health and well-being.
You can drink moderately and still lose weight, but as you noted, it is a habit you should attempt to break. I’ve never been a big drinker, so limiting my alcohol consumption was not a problem.
