Does anyone else struggle so much with sugar cravings and gut issues?

I’m 23 years old, 126 lbs, and 5’2". Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m addicted to sugar. I tried to avoid it for a whole day and ended up giving in; it felt like I was losing my mind over the craving. I’m trying to eat more fruit to get some nutritional value instead of eating straight-up chocolate, but it’s still hard.

It seems like all the weight I gain goes straight to my gut, or maybe I’m just inflamed because my digestion is so bad. I really want a smaller waist. I’ve been eating things like sea moss and chlorophyll, paused my ab workouts for now, and started tracking calories. I know calories in, calories out can work, but these sugar cravings are messing me up so much. How do you manage cravings like this? I don’t want food to have this much control over me.

Maybe you’re not eating enough carbs, which could be why your body craves sugar. You actually need carbs to function well. By the way, 126 lbs is a healthy weight for your height. You might not need to lose weight. Just stay active and eat plenty of protein, and you’ll probably build muscle and look leaner.

@Olympia
Thanks. I’ll try to focus on adding more carbs to my meals :muscle:

You don’t necessarily have to stop eating sugar entirely, but maybe just cut back. Try eating dark chocolate with 85% cocoa or more; it’s satisfying with less sugar. Also, make sure you’re drinking enough water. A good rule of thumb is to drink about half your body weight in ounces of water per day. Fruit is a great choice too, and there’s no need to stop doing ab workouts if they’re part of a balanced exercise routine.

Dehydration might actually be part of the problem. I struggle to drink water unless it’s right in front of me. Do you have tips for staying hydrated, or do I just need to start chugging and making more trips to the bathroom? :sweat_smile:

@Gale
Have you tried coconut water? It’s slightly sweet and great for hydration. I didn’t like it at first, but now I love it; it kind of tastes like cereal milk to me.

@Gale
Keeping a water bottle nearby helps a lot. I like using an insulated cup or even a sodastream. Drinking water consistently becomes a habit with some practice.

This sounds like an addiction to refined sugars or chemicals in processed foods. I used to feel the same way, but after detoxing from processed stuff, I can eat natural sugars like fruit, honey, or maple syrup with no issues now.

@Kieran
I think you’re right; it does feel like that for me too. I’ve been trying to replace processed sugars with honey and fruit, but the cravings are so intense. If I cave, I go overboard. I’ve started cooking at home and avoiding frozen meals. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Try taking a berberine supplement; it helps with insulin resistance. I take 1000 mg daily and quit sugar cold turkey. The cravings disappeared, and I haven’t touched sugar in months. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll give it a shot. I appreciate your help.

Be cautious with supplements; check with your doctor and read about potential side effects or interactions before trying anything.

Thanks for the reminder. I’ve started researching berberine and found a couple of studies on it. I wish I had been more thorough with other supplements I’ve tried in the past, but I was so desperate for solutions back then. Your advice is appreciated.
