How much walking do I need to avoid loose skin?

I’ve been mostly inactive, walking around 3000 steps a day, but now I want to lose weight. My big concern is avoiding loose skin. How long should I walk every day to lose weight slowly and not end up with loose skin?

How much you walk doesn’t really decide if you’ll have loose skin or not. Loose skin happens mostly when you’ve had a lot of weight to lose, like an unhealthy amount of fat.

If you’re worried about loose skin, focus on changing your habits to lose weight steadily. Adding strength training can also help tighten things up a bit.

Why do you think walking will stop loose skin? That’s not how it works.

I’m thinking if I lose weight slowly, I might avoid a lot of loose skin.

What’s your current weight, height, and BMI? You might just need to focus on fat loss rather than overall weight.

@LauraScott
I honestly don’t know. My mom doesn’t allow scales in the house because my sister had an eating disorder. I live with her, so I’ve never tracked my weight. I do know I need to lose weight, though.

@Shawn
Do you have a rough estimate?

Not really, I’m terrible with numbers, and I’ve never been weighed before, so I don’t have anything to base it on.

Alright, good luck on your journey.

Walking won’t prevent loose skin. Loose skin depends on your age, genetics, how fast you lose weight, and how much weight you have to lose. Some people say drinking a lot of water or using oils to moisturize helps, but that might not do much.

At the end of the day, it’s kind of luck. But even if you do end up with some loose skin, it’s still better than being obese. Focus on losing the weight first because that’s the bigger issue.

@Wyatt
I want to lose weight mostly for how I look. Loose skin and fat both bother me about the same. If I get a lot of loose skin, I’ll still feel like I look bad, so it feels like a lose-lose. Right now, walking is the only exercise I can do because I don’t have access to gym equipment or private space. I’m also worried about exercising too much and losing too much weight too fast.
