Stomach shrinkage: fact or fiction?

Will your stomach shrink if you cut back on your servings and eat less? I don’t mean stomach fat, but the actual organ. I’ve heard that this happens over time when you eat less, but your real stomach will not shrink, which is why individuals seek weight loss surgery. Does anyone believe they have reduced the size of their stomach by food alone?

Your stomach is actually a muscular pouch. It extends to accommodate what you eat and drink. Depending on your intake, it might gradually increase or reduce muscular tone. So, certainly, if you eat less, your stomach’s resting size will shrink over time, just as competitive eaters train their stomachs to expand tremendously.

All I know is that to satisfy my hunger, I needed to consume a Double Texas Whopper with cheese and bacon, as well as huge fries. Then I shed 120 pounds in a year by eating smaller meals.

Now I’m satisfied with a simple Whopper Jr. and tiny fries. My stomach seems to have shrunk, either physically or mentally.

I’ve dramatically reduced my portion sizes. I used to be able to eat a fifty-piece nugget, a huge fry, and a large sweet tea. I’m now feeling satisfied after eating ten pieces.

I cannot check my stomach, but you will become accustomed to portion sizes. So, if you consume large portions, you will soon require them to feel satisfied. In contrast, if you eat small meals frequently, you will gradually stop feeling hungry after eating a small piece. However, if you are usually consistent but binge once a week or every two weeks, you will never be satisfied with small portions.

I’ve been able to significantly lessen my hunger by fasting and limiting my intake of overly processed meals. I require less to feel full and can go longer between meals. I can’t say whether my stomach has shrunk, but my hunger has definitely dropped. I’m not as anxious to stuff my face, traditional fast foods have become less tempting, and whole foods like airfried broccoli seasoned to perfection make my mouth water.

This process has taken months, and I’ve had to fight and overcome engrained behaviours that influence how I react to events, which usually involves grabbing something to eat.

Facts based on my personal experiences. However, it goes both ways; if you start eating more again, you will gradually acquire accustomed to greater portions.

I can surely eat less than when I was overeating.

I believe it is a lengthy process, and like any part of your body that is malleable…if you have massive biceps, your body can re-find them easier than the first time, but if you stop lifting, your muscles atrophy. When you eat a lot, your stomach expands; when you start eating less, it adjusts to not being stretched.

Yes, and it can happen rather quickly if you only eat tiny servings, such as within a month. Remember that the opposite is also true: eat a lot, and your appetite will return in about three weeks.
