To those of you who went from mid size to very skinny, how did you do it?

I often see stories of people going from overweight to a normal weight, but rarely from average size to very slim. For those who have achieved this, how did you do it and how do you maintain it?

I reduced my body fat from 30% to 20% through weightlifting and maintaining a balanced diet at or slightly below maintenance calories. Interestingly, my scale weight increased slightly, but the visual transformation was striking. I strongly advise against aiming for extreme thinness, as it’s not conducive to a healthy mindset.

During a phase of my life when I was breastfeeding for two years straight, dieting, and running 25 miles a week, I became “very skinny” for my frame. I was not feeling well. Running and breastfeeding were fantastic, but I can’t believe I was also supposed to follow a rigid diet at one point. Cheers to postpartum depression left untreated! I used to be between an 8 and a 12, so I thought it was really fantastic when I tried on a size 4 skirt and it hung off me. I had a plan and was suicidal as well. 0/10 would not suggest.

I went from 165 pounds to 105 pounds as a 5’1" person. While I wasn’t obese, I was overweight, which I guess is considered mid-sized. My success came from two main factors: first, balancing my hormones during peri-menopause; and second, overcoming emotional eating and discovering how little food I actually need to sustain my body.

I lost weight from 165 to 108 (female, 5’10"). It’s quite frustrating. People often fail to recognize me or inquire about my well-being.
