I’m 19 years old, 6’1.5, and I used to weigh about 150 pounds with low body fat. Now I’m at 170 pounds, and it feels like I’ve gained mostly fat. I’ve got my workout and diet plans set, but I’m worried about dealing with loose skin or other problems while losing weight. I’ve also heard that face fat doesn’t go away – I really hope that’s not true. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.
At 150 pounds, you were probably a little underweight for your height. Now at 170, you’re on the low end of normal weight. I doubt you’re carrying that much body fat. Before you lose weight, it might be a good idea to talk to a doctor. If you’re aiming for a toned look, consider working with a dietician or even a personal trainer.
@Tan
I’m a bit taller at 6’3.5 and weigh 210 pounds, but I wouldn’t call myself fat at all. I’m thinking about losing around 10 pounds, but no one, except maybe someone like Eugenia Cooney, would call me fat. Building muscle and improving overall fitness is the way to go if you’re dealing with skinny fat.
@Riley
I really wish this forum would start telling people who are already at a healthy weight that they don’t need to lose more. There seem to be more posts recently where people are asking for weight loss advice even though they’re normal weight, or even underweight. We need to stop giving people advice that could be harmful to their health.
I don’t think you’ll have to worry about loose skin at all. As long as you’re eating fewer calories than you burn, your body will shed fat from everywhere – including your face, arms, and belly. Fat burns off at different rates from different areas, but it’s all coming off. If you still don’t like how your face looks at 150 pounds, you can continue losing weight until you’re happy with it. Once you’re there, just switch to eating at maintenance level.
Your BMI is 22, and you’re still growing. Take another look at yourself – you’re not overweight.
You’d have to lose around 75 pounds or more for loose skin to even be a concern. And even then, losing weight slowly helps prevent it.
You won’t have loose skin. I lost 50 pounds in less than a year and didn’t have any. And trust me, your face fat will definitely go away. Not sure who told you otherwise, but face fat tends to go down as you age anyway. You’re only 19, man – go sprint in nature with some music, you’ll feel amazing.
Haha. I’m 55 and lost 75 pounds (310 to 235), and I don’t have any loose skin at all. You’re good.
