Weight loss and hypothyroidism

Hey everyone, Does anyone have a thyroid disorder? If so, how exactly do you lose weight? I’ve been oscillating between 230 and 250 pounds for approximately three years, and nothing seems to work. Any advice is appreciated; thank you!

For reference, I am a 24-year-old female with autoimmune disorders and hypothyroidism.

I’ve had Hashimoto’s since I was sixteen. At the age of 48, a doctor told me that I would grow old, fat, and unattractive. Pissed me off. I conducted a lot of research. #1 If you are not at optimal levels, you will not lose weight (TSH, T4, T3). #2 You must consume 600–900 more calories than the normal person. #3 Every day, you must workout for 45 minutes. I walk 9 to 19 miles per day. #4 Fast at least once a week for ten hours! All of these factors combined will cause you to lose weight. I went from 142 pounds at 5’6" to 107-109 pounds. It has been off for three years. Will power! I do not drink, either. Avoid junk; it contains empty calories. I eat a lot of fruit! Good luck, that is.

Simply adjust your TSH to normal levels. If your TSH levels are normal while on medication, the thyroid is not contributing to your weight. So you lose weight just like everybody else. Like everyone has a low thyroid, and the internet appears to believe that no one understands thyroid disorders. Not true.

It’s difficult to accept that some of us will never be able to quit tracking calories. I’ve been consuming around 1400 calories per day for my whole life, and that won’t change unless I exercise much more.

Typical day food: zone bar, clementine and black coffee for breakfast. Lunch consisted of a can of V8, an apple, and a protein smoothie. 1/4 cup almonds snack. Dinner consisted of vegetables in abundance, as well as a frozen banana. Water.

Keto. (I do not endorse this anymore; please see my edit.)

I tried AIP, the anti-candida diet, hormone therapy, sleep, stress management, and so on. However, the only thing that ever worked was keto, and it was simple. Most people lose roughly 7 pounds in their first week of keto; I dropped none. I continued with it, and after a month, the weight started to melt off. My skin cleared up, so did my thinking, my TPO antibodies reduced, my depression vanished, and so on.

I’m still on thyroid medicine, and I take selenium and cod liver oil daily. After a year, I’m not completely keto. I am currently carb cycling in the evenings. However, if I detect my insulin resistance creeping back, I simply go completely keto.

The best thing is to avoid bread, pasta, potatoes, and rice. Eat a lot of vegetables, but make sure you prepare them so they are simpler to digest. Consume high-protein meals. Don’t eat after 9 p.m. Do some modest exercise every day. Make sure to include iodine in your diet. Eating the seaweed snacks available at Trader Joe’s is an easy method to accomplish this. Selenium is also significant. You can acquire it from Brazil nuts. Three per day. Drink only water. Unless you make your own juice. Avoid excessive drinking, as hypothyroidism can cause water retention. If so, try drinking Dandelion tea to eliminate extra water. Mostly, remember to be kind with your system. It’s a balancing act. I believe that a clean food diet is best and don’t eat large meals it can slow you down even more. This is what I do when I feel my best. I know it can be difficult. Especially when you have to think about food all the time to stay healthy.

Hypothyroidism is a disorder in which the thyroid gland produces insufficient thyroid hormone, resulting in a slow overall metabolism. As a result, persons with hypothyroidism often experience weight gain because their bodies are unable to metabolise the extra calories. Losing weight on his own is a challenging procedure, made much more difficult by the slow metabolic rate. As a result, people with hyperactive thyroids often struggle to lose weight.

Here are some ways to assist people with hypothyroidism lose weight properly.

The first thing persons affected by this ailment should do is ensure that they receive good treatment.

Dr. Ben Bikman’s book “Why We Get Sick” contained a surprising fact. People with hypothyroidism have fewer insulin receptors on their cells due to low thyroid hormone levels. That implies our bodies require more insulin to transport glucose into cells for energy. Higher insulin levels allow more glucose to be stored as fat, implying that most persons with hypothyroidism are insulin resistant.

That implies we should choose a diet that is exceptionally low in sugar and carbohydrates, and we should not view slow fat loss as a personal failure because we are at a significant disadvantage.
I had some success with a high fat, low carb diet and am now nearly totally carnivorous, but for a start, I would recommend eliminating sweets, fruit, and carbohydrates.

Absolutely. My hypothyroidism was discovered by accident; they were looking for something quite else.

By the time they put me on medication, I weighed 80 kg and stood 1.74 metres tall. I felt a lot better after reaching the recommended dosage (100 microgrammes per day). Less weary and much cheerful.

But I did not lose weight.

At that point, I had to admit that my thyroid wasn’t the primary reason for my weight increase. It simply adds to a lack of exercise and poor eating habits (a full package of spaghetti coupled with 200g of cheese and a bag of chips for dessert? (Sign me up!) and increased my protein intake. I lost 20kg in about 4 months.

When I accepted it, I began tracking calories and attempted to maintain a daily deficit between 500 and 1000 kcal.

Weight gain is one of the symptoms of hypothyroidism, as are other issues. English medicine regulates thyroid hormone levels, but the extra weight stays. Can it be reduced?

Yes !

Trifla Churn 1 teaspoon additional honey as needed, using one or two spoons. Mix thoroughly and eat first thing in the morning.

Soak one spoonful of Dhania (Coriander) in one glass of water at night. Boil this mixture in the morning. Allow to cool, then filter and swallow the liquid.

This allows us to reduce the weight of a Hypothyroidism patient.

Hypothyroidism requires daily hormone replacement medication. You should also enhance your iodine intake by consuming soybeans, potatoes with skin, bananas, garlic, spinach, strawberries, milk, yoghurt, cheese, (shrimp, lobster, cod, eggs), tuna, navy and lima beans, prunes, and so on. Selenium-rich foods include Brazilian nuts, almonds, peanuts, and walnuts. Sunflower seeds, peas, mushrooms, onions, broccoli, cabbage, brown rice (beef or salmon), etc.

To reduce belly fat, you must go fully carbohydrate-free for at least a few months. This means no rotis, bread, rice, or puris… Difficult proposition. In that scenario, lower your carb intake and choose for brown bread/rice, jowar, and bajra rotis, which will keep you fuller for longer. Boiled rice (a coastal staple) is also advised.
