I stop into Sheets at least three or four times a week for petrol and air (I’m too lazy to replace my tyre, even though I’m completely capable haha), and I spend about $30-40 each week on munchies here and there. My major drink is a slushie, followed by a pair of mini debbies and, depending on the situation, an energy drink. Otherwise, I normally order a large mozzarella sandwich and a slushie. My metabolism appears to be fine, but as a young man, I want to put an end to this before my metabolism fails and I find out too late.
Obviously, water is the counter-option to the slushie, but I’m curious what you guys think is best for a grab-and-go. Second, for those who are unaware, a large mozz is a chicken sandwich with three mozzarella sticks on top, a layer of mozzarella cheese in between, and marinara sauce all over. There are probably a lot of carbs there, but it’s filling.
I enjoy the fruit cups sold at enjoy’s. They are cup holder size and come with a small stick to stab them with. I have always found them to be fresh and reasonably priced! I’ve done multiple cross-country road journeys, mostly fuelled by fruit lol.
Quit eating at petrol stations totally.
Meal prep at home or stop by the grocery store for ready-made salads, bowls, or eggs/meat/veggie/hummus trays.
Edit: Look for boiled eggs, salad, and vegetable cups. These are better alternatives to fried sandwiches in an emergency.
Personally, depending on what’s available, I prefer a wrap or a leafy salad with water, a low-/zero-calorie drink, or a protein shake. I usually seek for something that contains both vegetables and protein (fish or chicken). I sometimes grab a pouch of yoghurt, as well as some fruits and nuts.
I like to grab the vegetable burrito from Sheetz and load it with beans, rice, guacamole, lettuce, and tomato. It’s a huge burrito, so it’ll have more calories (probably around 650), but if you consume half for one meal, you can store the rest. They also occasionally have Perfect Bars, which are chilled protein bars with a lot of healthy ingredients. It’s peanut butter-based, so it’ll be heavier in calories, but it’s packed with healthy ingredients. Both of these are incredibly filling, so they are typically all I need for lunch or dinner.
My go-to gas station snacks are a Premier Protein smoothie, a Coke Zero/Sprite Zero and/or a bag of Goldfish. If you enjoy Goldfish, they are a fantastic value for calories—50 pieces contain fewer than 150 calories.
I absolutely like Sheetz for grab and go. I generally grab a burrito bowl and a 7 oz fruit cup. They also provide vegetarian cups and Oh Snap! pickles. They also serve diet iced tea and diet Dr. Pepper from the fountain. Their website also has a fairly extensive nutrition section, if you want to dig really into it.
