A little background. I’m 35 years old, a guy truck driver.
On September 9, I had a doctor’s appointment, and the scale read 335.4. I was quite upset with that number, so I resolved to take control of my eating habits and begin losing weight.
Today (10/31), after only modifying my diet, I weighed 298.7 pounds, down -36.7 pounds in 52 days. I’m incredibly happy of myself for accomplishing this, and I’ve set another tall goal of reaching 275 by New Year’s Day.
My question is, my ultimate objective is to shed about 130 pounds and reach 200. How can I accomplish this while avoiding the loose skin that comes with such drastic weight loss?
This happens when you lose weight too quickly. Loss of muscle mass causes loose skin.
Choose a more effective weight loss regimen and maintain a healthy calorie deficit. Weight gain or decrease is a long-term process. Fat melts in its own way. You simply need to consume less calories than necessary to maintain your present weight.
Have a calorie deficit of no more than 400 kcal each day. Weight training and aerobic activity can help you build your muscles.
Eat plenty of veggies, legumes, fruits, whole grains, nuts, and low-fat dairy. Avoid oils, added sugar, processed flours, outside food, and pre-packaged items such as noodles and chips.
Install any health app and track your calories every day. Be consistent.
Genetics can be essential, but it’s much more crucial to understand what causes loose skin. Fat is found just beneath our superficial skin, and muscle lies beneath that.If you’ve gained weight as a result of fat accumulation, it signifies fat is taking up more space between your skin and muscle.
To avoid having loose skin, strive to reduce weight gradually, avoid crash diets, and continue to exercise so that enough muscle comes up to fill the area that fat produced. Remember that muscle accounts for a large portion of your body weight, thus increasing muscle will result in the addition of additional muscular mass, but don’t worry because this will be your healthy weight and you will not appear fat:)
Whether you’ve lost a lot of weight or are concerned about ageing, you can keep your skin firm and tight by making a few lifestyle modifications. While loose skin cannot be totally avoided, it is feasible to lessen its appearance and severity. If your condition is severe, you can seek medical attention from a doctor.
Lose weight gently. If you lose too much weight quickly, you may have more extra skin than if you reduce weight gradually. Aim to lose no more than 1-2 pounds (0.45–0.91 kg) every week.
To lose one pound each week, you must expend 3,500 calories. You can achieve this target by removing 500 calories from your diet each day.
I’m 52 and have shed approximately 75 pounds at a pace of 2 pounds per week. My skin was able to keep up with my weight loss, and I have not had any loose skin issues. Another key factor is that I practiced strength training throughout the process. If I had lost weight solely through diet or a combination of diet and cardio, I believe I would have had more loose skin to cope with. If you are gaining lean muscle while losing weight, the muscle tone beneath your skin will aid in avoiding problems.
First and first, I’m sorry to hear about your job situation, and I hope you find a solution as soon as possible because it might put a strain on your health.
I’m delighted you don’t smoke or use drugs since it’s far better for your health. You can help prevent loose skin by avoiding losing weight too soon, whether you are genetically predisposed to it. When you lose weight too quickly, you may lose more muscle than fat, and our muscles provide support to our tissues, which help keep the skin on your body.
With your current mindset for weight loss and exercise, you should be able to see this through. Having an enjoyable exercise routine is beneficial.
Some people have loose skin. Some don’t. My weight loss was slow, but I still have a lot of excess skin. Others I know have shed a lot of weight and yet have very little. It is unpredictable.
My weight has remained about 150 for nearly eight years, down from 270 at its peak. There has been no change in the additional skin. I wear XS leggings as a compression garment.
To rejuvenate your skin and remove excess skin/scar tissue, you must progressively decrease weight and stay active. This is the only method to avoid losing skin.
This also indicates that you should avoid standard rapid weight-loss plans. Rather, concentrate on minor nutrition adjustments and remaining ‘passively-active’. For example, increase your walking, cycling, yoga, and other recreational activities that do not deplete your energy yet are aerobic enough to burn fat.
The amount of loose skin is determined by how much weight you need to lose. If you lose weight gradually, your skin can keep up with it. I shed 55 pounds in three months with no sagging skin. Stay active, and your skin will tighten as you go. I disagree with the “build muscle” advice because bodybuilding might make you hungry and skew your weight loss results.
The best solution is to drink plenty of water, stay active, and eat well. If you fall off the waggon, get back on track fast. Pretend you didn’t fall from the waggon. Find something that will push you to keep going. The real you is waiting to play.
Drinking water is one of the best strategies to keep your skin tight during and after weight reduction. Hydration levels have a significant impact on your skin’s suppleness. A simple skin-care routine can help prevent drooping skin. Exfoliate every day to boost circulation and eliminate dead skin cells.
The most effective strategy to avoid loose skin is to decrease weight gently. As the collagen and elastin fibres that support your skin cells degrade, your skin will stretch or sag. Resisting the desire to eliminate calories too rapidly will also give additional stability for the fat tissue defences you’re fighting.

Loose skin following major weight reduction is typical, especially if the weight loss is quick. To reduce loose skin, aim for moderate weight loss, strength training, and staying hydrated. In some circumstances, surgery may be used to remove extra skin.
