BMI Question please help

Please forgive me if this is the improper place to ask about BMI. Please redirect me to the proper sub. I’ve been curious about something I’ve never seen discussed. As I’ve become older (73) and my arthritis/spine troubles worsened, I’ve really dropped four inches in height. So my bones are roughly the same size as when I was taller, but the distance between them has shortened. If BMI is calculated by comparing height to weight, is the shorter height an accurate method?

Dear Readers,

BMI stands for Body Mass Index.

It reveals your optimal weight based on your height.

It is primarily a measure for assessing obesity.

BMI categories-

Underweight=<18.5

Weight range: 18.5 - 24.9

Over weight = 25 - 29.9

Obese = over 30

There are many BMI calculators available on Google. You may calculate your BMI by entering your height and weight measurements.

The body mass index, also known as the Quetelet index, is a value calculated from an individual’s mass and height. BMI is calculated by dividing body mass by height squared. It is stated in kg/m² units, where mass is in kilogrammes and height is in meters.

Your BMI is less than 18.5, which indicates that you are underweight. If you weigh between 18.5 and 24.9 pounds, you are in the healthy weight range. Between 25 and 29.9, you are in the overweight zone.

A normal BMI ranges from 18.5 to 24.9, while overweight is defined as a BMI of 25 to 29.9. Calculating a BMI is relatively simple and requires only a few measurements. However, because this approach does not account for muscle mass or body composition, there is a risk of receiving an incorrect result. As a result, different technologies such as callipers, underwater weighing, and bioelectrical impedance may be utilised to better quantify body composition.

Your BMI is calculated as weight in kilogrammes divided by height in meters squared.

A BMI of 17 to 24 is considered good.

It is the ratio of your weight in kilogrammes to your height in meters squared. If your weight is 56 kilogrammes and your height is 1.57 metres. The BMI is therefore calculated as 56/(1.57*1.57), or 22. 7.
