I started taking 37.5 mg of phentermine daily last week in an attempt to modify my eating patterns and reduce my persistent hunger. I was wondering if anyone had encountered any unfavorable side effects. Although the phentermine information websites list a plethora of negative effects, I would prefer to hear from actual people about their experiences. Anyone have any stories to share?
I haven’t personally taken it, but as a pharmacist, I can share what you might typically experience. Common effects include anxiety, a rapid heartbeat, jitters, and a feeling of warmth (even without a fever). If you’ve ever experienced low blood sugar, it can feel somewhat similar, although it shouldn’t cloud your thinking like low blood sugar can.
Some people also experience an increase in blood pressure.
Honestly, when I was a student/technician, I envied those with prescriptions for it. But after finishing college and learning more about it, I’m glad I never took it. As u/apriltron mentioned, it doesn’t change your underlying habits—it just suppresses hunger. Once you stop taking it, the hunger usually returns, and many people regain the weight.
If I were in your shoes, I’d probably try to tackle the initial change without it. But I know that’s easier said than done from where I am now
