Has anyone else struggled to lose weight while following a high protein diet?

I began personal training sessions around 5 months ago and was advised to follow a high protein diet. I’d been weight lifting for almost 7 years and had gained quite a bit of muscle.

I went from working in construction to a desk job and gained roughly 8 pounds, which is why I wanted to try PT. Since adopting high protein, I’ve gained another 10 pounds! I weigh all of my food; my maintenance is 2500 calories, and I’ve been sticking at 1900-2000 calories per day. Every morning before work, I go to the gym and complete my 10,000 steps.
I won’t lie: I despise protein; everything about it makes me want to gag. I suppose I’d like to return to eating largely fruits and vegetables rather than prioritising protein objectives. I feel lighter and have more energy; fingers crossed, it will help me lose weight. I wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way.

The basic answer is that you are likely not receiving enough calories. Protein is important for muscle growth, but it also makes you feel fuller and less likely to consume additional calories. To acquire weight, you need to have a net surplus.

There are numerous bodybuilding styles, so we can’t truly judge the remainder of your physical efforts. However, be mindful that certain programs are primarily designed to improve strength rather than mass.

Because the very rigorous high protein diet you mention must require more calories per day than you expend. Most likely, you are eating the wrong foods.(Dairy, meat, processed sugar, and oils.)

Carb, carb, and more carbs, my friend. You’re lacking your primary performance and recovery fuel. Eat a lot of rice and observe how you handle it.

Why do you think a high protein diet can help you lose weight? You’re simply pissing out the additional protein and stressing your liver.

You may restrict yourself to particular meals, but you are still consuming equal to or more calories than your body requires. This will not reduce your weight. To lose weight, consume less calories than your body burns.

Dieticians recommend consuming enough food to keep you full for two and a half hours. This also depends on your body type, but the best thing you can do is stay balanced and avoid junk food, bread, sugar, and potatoes. Exercise can also help a lot you don’t need to do extreme exercises but you can walk or do jogging for a few minutes every day.

Probably, your accountability is erroneous. Losing weight is actually pretty straightforward. Eat less and exercise more. If you’re already eating to your limit, move even more. Regardless, monitor your thyroid and liver functions. :sweat_smile:
