Stationary bike versus treadmill

I’m looking for personal experiences with treadmills vs. stationary bikes like Peloton that offer programs for weight loss.

Both my husband and I are at our highest weight, and we’re ready to make a change. Gyms are difficult due to our work schedules and kids, so we’re considering either a Peloton-type bike or a treadmill.

I’ve heard of people successfully losing weight with a treadmill program that includes high incline and medium speed. My husband thinks a Peloton would be more interactive, fun, and that we’d be more likely to use it. Plus, it would fit in our living area, whereas a treadmill would have to be in a separate room.

If anyone would like to share their experiences with either or both, I’d appreciate it.

Thank you!

I’ve used treadmills at the gym, so I’ve always wanted one. I jog and walk a great deal. Although they take up more room than I would like, the new ones can fit under a bed.

Great question! Both treadmills and Peloton bikes can be effective for weight loss, so it really comes down to what you prefer:

  1. Calorie Burn: Treadmills generally burn slightly more calories, especially if you use an incline.
  2. Enjoyment: Peloton bikes often have engaging programs that might keep you motivated.
  3. Space: Peloton bikes take up less space, which is a plus for your living area.

Here are some user experiences to consider:

  1. Treadmill: “I lost weight with a high-incline, moderate-speed program. It wasn’t always fun, but it was effective!”
  2. Peloton: “My Peloton is a lifesaver! The classes are so much fun, and I look forward to using it.”

Why not try both? Many gyms offer Peloton rentals or treadmill sessions.

Good luck to you and your husband on your weight loss journey!

Treadmill burns more calories, good for full body workout, but bulky. Peloton bike is fun and fits anywhere, but might burn a tad less calories.

We got a treadmill (burns more!), but try a Peloton class online first! You both gotta enjoy it to stick with it!

Close enough. You’ll likely burn more calories running on a treadmill. For heart health, both are equally good. The real question is, will you use it?
